About Qutub Minar

The Qutub Minar is one of India’s most iconic historical landmarks and a must-visit attraction in Delhi. Standing tall at 73 meters, it is the tallest brick minaret in the world and a remarkable example of Indo-Islamic architecture.  The construction of Qutub Minar began in 1193 by Qutb-ud-din Aibak, the founder of the Delhi Sultanate, after the defeat of the last Hindu kingdom in Delhi. However, he could only complete the first storey. The remaining structure was built by his successor Iltutmish, and later renovations were carried out by Firoz Shah Tughlaq. Qutub Minar is made of red sandstone and marble, featuring intricate carvings and verses from the Quran. The tower has five distinct storeys, each marked by a projecting balcony. Its tapering cylindrical shape and alternating angular and circular flutings make it an architectural masterpiece.
